University of 撸sir视频ʻi at 撸sir视频 catcher Izabella Martinez earned her first career Big West Field Player of the Week award after leading 撸sir视频 with a .700 batting average in three games against California Polytechnic State University, April 7–8 in San Luis Obispo, California.
Martinez, a sophomore, went 7-for-10 at the plate to help the Rainbow Wahine win two of three last week. She recorded a career-high three hits in the first and third games. Two of her seven hits went for extra bases with a double and a solo home run. On defense, the catcher threw out two Cal Poly runners trying to steal second in the series.
Martinez leads 撸sir视频 overall with a .373 batting average. She has a team-best 38 hits, seven doubles and is second on the team with 27 RBI. In conference play, she is ranked top on the team with a .444 batting average. Martinez also leads the Big West and is ranked No. 5 in the NCAA with just three strikeouts in 102 at-bats.
Martinez is the second Rainbow Wahine to be voted Big West Field Player of the Week, joining Mya’Liah Bethea who received the honor on February 20.
The Rainbow Wahine return home to host UC Riverside, April 14–15, at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
